Windsor has been awarded the 2022 Can-Am Police-Fire Games.

The city will spend $580,000 to host the Games but the income generated by tourists visiting Windsor could be between $5 and $10 million.

“We’re thrilled to be setting up another signature event for our city and region,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “This event will bring hundreds of adults and families to experience all that we have to offer.  Hotels and restaurants will be busy, and we’ll see some excellent athletes compete in a host of sports.”

“Some cities will give us their top 10 reasons why we should award them the games, Windsor gave us 125 reasons why,”  said President and CEO of the Games, Billy Merrylees.

Windsor outbid Lubbock, Texas and Lethbridge, Alberta for 2022.

The annual event held in North America brings about 800 police officers and fire fighters to participate.
