Members of Riverside Baptist Church, along with community participants were led down the path by Mayor Drew Dilkens, in support of a 75-year-old  Sara Anne Widholm, a grandmother who was brutally attacked on the trail on the morning of October 8.

Widholm was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries.

“We’ve all heard about the wonderful woman who was attacked while walking the trail last Sunday morning,” said Mayor Dilkens in a press release inviting the community to join him on the walk.

“It was an unprovoked, vicious and random assault that has put her in hospital fighting for her life, and it has left our community bewildered. This walk is being held to show our support for Mrs. Widholm and her family, to reassure each other that our community stands together as one in times of distress, and to reaffirm that our community’s parks and trails are safe.”

The trail is regularly patrolled by Windsor police auxiliary officers, and cruiser drive-bys.

“It would be very easy in this situation to get angry at the person who committed this crime, but Jesus commanded his followers to be characterized by love, even to our enemies,” wrote Pastor Brandon Taylor in a statement released by Riverside Baptist Church.

A 21-year-old male from Windsor has been arrested and is in custody in connection to this incident.
