Windsor is not usually familiar with celebrities, but this April the city will get a taste of Hollywood.

Producer Gerry,Lattmann, producer Jeff Nadalin and director Theodore Bizaire held a press conference Jan. 28 at the Capitol Theatre about information on the new film The Birder.

The movie features well-known actors Fred Willard(Anchorman), Graham Greene(Twilight Saga) and Mark Rendall(30 Days of Night). The storyline revolves around a bird enthusiast and high school teacher who loses his job as Head of Ornithology at a National Park. The film was shot, in part, at Point Pelee.

A movie about birds suits the area, as Windsor and Essex County are international destinations for birding .Several local spots are featured in the film including St Anne Catholic High School and Sandwich Town. The long-awaited film took about seven years to finish and the cast and production team are excited for the release.

According to Bizaire he has done several films in the past and this is most significant to his career.

“After many years of literally blood, sweat and tears, we have pulled off the monumental task of finishing an independent feature film,” said Bizaire.

At the press conference the trio unveiled the first trailer and explained the process of the release. On April 3, they will host a red carpet event at the Capitol Theatre, followed by the theatrical launch April 4, which will play at the Lakeshore Cinemas in Tecumseh.

Latmann said that he wants to create a splash in the movie business.

“We think it’s important to do it for Windsor to honour Windsor,” said Lattman.

“We want to give everybody who comes an opportunity to walk the red carpet and get photographed like Hollywood stars do.”

Nadlin said proceeds of the red carpet event will go to Transition to Bitterness charity organization.  As a Windsorite, he knows how it important this film is to the community.

“So many people collaborated to make this picture, “literally thousands of people I think “what’s most exciting is to show the population of Windsor that this city can be a lot more than car plants and casinos,” said Nadalin.

He said if the show becomes a success they plan to expand to national theater outlets.
