Canadian retired astronaut Chris Hadfield is here in Windsor.

The astronaut that touched many hearts with his breathtaking photos posted online from the International Space Station is promoting both his new book You Are Here and his guest appearance with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.

Hadfield had previously been on the International Space Station for six months back in 2012. He was the first Canadian to command the ISS and the first Canadian to walk in space. On his final day in space, he performed on guitar David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” Back on planet Earth, he was at the Windsor Star’s Green Bean Café along with his guitar to meet and greet with fans of his photo and musical work. Windsor has played a part in what inspired Hadfield to pursue aviation and eventually become an astronaut.

“My first understanding of aviation was when I was four years old and my family took me to the Windsor Air Show. That was when I knew I wanted to become who I am today,” said Hadfield.

Hadfield has lived for 26 years outside of Canada with his space work from Russia to Houston and eventually the International Space Station. On board the ISS via livestream he sang “Is Somebody Singing” along with 700,000 Canadian elementary kids.

“I’ve played music my whole life and I believe that music is a wonderful intuitive language,” said Hadfield.

He is on tour from guest speaking to book signings. His next stop will be Calgary on Oct. 26 at Indigo Signal Hill.
