Windsor mayoral election results

The constituents of the City of Windsor have elected Drew Dilkens as Windsor’s next

mayor in landslide fashion, as Dilkens claimed 55.4 per cent of the vote.

The Ward One councilor’s platform was simple, building on success. He made

promises to have the taxpayers in mind and that they were his top priority.

“ I have one main principle that cannot be compromised, I have the taxpayers back. I

work for the taxpayer and not any special interest group,” said Dilkens. “As mayor of

Windsor, as I have for the past eight years (as councilor), I put taxpayers first, this

will not change.”

Dilkens’ landslide victory came as no surprise to current Windsor mayor Eddie

Francis who gave Dilkens his support earlier in the campaign.

“I’m not surprised, Drew (Dilkens) ran a very effective campaign, very strong in the

vision he presented and staying the course. That’s what people want, people want

that steady hand at the wheel,” said Francis.

After Dilkens, the next two closest candidates were former Windsor mayor, John

Millson with 27.2 per cent of the vote and Larry Horwitz with 12.5 per cent.

Dilkens opponents Timothy Dugdale and Ernie “The Baconman” congratulated

Dilkens on being the mayor-elect while also discussing issues in the city and ideas

they would like to see implemented.

Horwitz gave Dilkens his direct support throughout the course of his term, offering

help anyway he could.

“He will do, with my help, because I told him that I would support him in his

journey, he will do what it takes to bring this city to the next level,” said Horwitz. “I

fully support the next mayor, Drew Dilkens and I’ll do what it takes to help him.”

Dilkens said that his first order of business as the mayor-elect is one that he

promised throughout his entire campaign.

“First order of business like I’ve always said would be a phone call tomorrow to the

head of Ford and the head of Chrysler to introduce myself as the mayor-elect, to tell

them how important their business is to our community and that we would be

willing to do anything to make sure that we enhance their business and retain their

business in our community,” said Dilkens.

Dilkens will officially be sworn in as Windsor’s mayor on Dec. 1, 2014.
