As the flood of Syrian refugees continues in Europe, Canada prepares to bring thousands into the country by the end of 2015.

The Liberal Party of Canada promised to bring in at least 25,000 refugees during the federal election. However, an expert said time may be too short to successfully settle refugees and navigate security concerns.

“The numbers are not difficult numbers. The timeline is a difficult timeline,” said Naomi Alboim, a Queen’s University professor and former deputy minister of the Ontario Ministry of citizenship.

Windsor has everything required to aid the hundreds of Syrian refugees the city is expecting, according to those who help the refugees forced to flee conflicts around the globe.

“The most important thing is we have the knowledge and the infrastructure on the ground and Windsor always has been a very welcoming community,” said Sudip Minhas executive director with the organization Windsor Women Working with Immigrant Women.

Minhas also said Windsor is doing their best to help as many refugees as possible.

“Windsor already accepts about 300 government-sponsored refugees annually as one of six Ontario reception centres for such Canadian newcomers,” said Minhas. “They make up almost a fifth of the city’s annual migrant influx of approximately 1,600.”

In an interview with CBC News, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he is asking the provinces and all Canadians to help served the refugees.

Some people have expressed concerns about bringing in Syrian refugees following the Paris attack Nov.13.

According to CBC News, Trudeau said he has talked to the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team Canadian National Security team to ensure the safety of Canadians after the attack.

“We will keep people apprised as more unfolds but I have been speaking with our national security team to ensure that everything is being done to keep people safe,” said Trudeau.
