Beyond the colosseum
The DWBIA and Windsor ComiCon are looking for businesses in the downtown area to host off-site activities to expand from a single location.
This year’s ComiCon will take place Aug. 12-13 at Caesars Windsor.
Partnering with the DWBIA, Windsor ComiCon will send out request for proposals from downtown businesses to host additional off-site activities.
Jeremy Renaud, the Marketing, Sponsorship and Public Relations Coordinator for Windsor Comicon hopes creating a festival type of experience in the downtown core will help to engage the community.
“In time, we hope the creation of a weekend experience will help create opportunities to bring more people into the area. In the long term, this will create opportunities for super hero weekend getaways,” said Renaud.
During the weekend event The CG Realm, a Windsor game store, will be providing tabletop board game programming from the stage and Hidden Trail Escape Room will be offering a unique experience from a custom built platform.
With about 7,000 people in attendance last year, ComiCon is hoping to cater to a wider age group through multiple opportunities from a kids’ zone to the cosplay competition.
“We’ve been a part of the Windsor ComiCon for the past three years and every year our involvement increases,” said Debi Croucher, DWBIA executive director. “We are looking to bring forth a dynamic interaction and encourage the public to expand their experience further into the downtown Windsor businesses that we have partnered with.”
