Tigers swept by Giants in World Series

The Detroit Tigers have lost the World Series in a four-game sweep to the San Francisco Giants.

The Tigers lost the deciding game 4-3 in 10 innings. Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro hit the game-winning RBI single in the top half of the tenth inning.

Giants closer Sergio Romo struck out Tigers centre fielder Austin Jackson, pinch-hitter Don Kelly and Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera to end the game. Romo also picked up the save in Games 2 and 3, each 2-0 Giants wins.

The Central division champion Tigers advanced to the World Series by defeating the Oakland Athletics in five games in the American League Divisional Series and sweeping the New York Yankees in four games in the American League Championship Series.

The Giants, who won the National League West Division, defeated the Cincinnati Reds in the NLDS and the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS before sweeping the Tigers.

Santiago Casilla recorded the decisive victory for San Francisco while Tigers reliever Phil Coke took the loss after allowing the Scutaro single in the tenth. Coke had struck out Hunter Pence, Brandon Belt and Gregor Blanco in the ninth after taking over for Octavio Dotel. Tigers starter Max Scherzer went six-and-a-third innings before giving way to Drew Smyly.

Cabrera was three-for-13 in the World Series while Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder hit one-for-14.
