Windsor police have received more than $84,000 in grant money from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Service to keep pharmacists in Windsor safe from frequent robberies.

There are 150 pharmacists across the region – 100 in Windsor.

“The grant is being partnered by LaSalle Police, Amherstburg Police and Essex County Pharmacists Association. They are at the initial stage of this strategy, conducting surveys and questionnaires to get a broader view of problems faced by pharmacists. They are planning to set up cameras, better lighting and counters to fight crimes,” said Const. Andy Drouillard, of the Windsor Police Service.

Police are seeking community participation to combat crimes and ensure pharmacists safety. They put out media releases to alert the public of these crimes whenever these crimes occur.

Police say it is a major community concern and has been a serious issue with drug abuse on such rise.

Should you be a victim of crime or witness / or have knowledge of a crime, Windsor police want you to call 911 or Crime Stoppers.
