Detroit-Windsor Tunnel to temporarily shut down

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is closing down for renovations until Oct. 30.
According to The City of Windsor, Windsorites can expect a few changes to the tunnel when it reopens.
Due to moisture, salt, exhaust and truck impact, a section of the 85-year-old ceiling of the tunnel is worn. One of the changes will fix the issue with an upgraded ceiling over the river section of the tunnel.
Tunnel access to and from Detroit will be suspended for the duration of the closure. However, during the nightly closures of the project, Transit Windsor will take passengers to special events across the border using the tunnel and will take the bridge on the way back.
The special event transit service will operate for 30 minutes after each event. The City of Windsor advises patrons to plan accordingly to avoid missing their rides back to Canada.
The tunnel will close tonight (Oct. 20) at 8 p.m. and open again at 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 30.
