Ste. Anne’s Parish in Tecumseh will finally get their steeple up.

On Nov. 6, 2017 the steeple will be lifted after ten years on the ground. According to Father Eugene Roy, in restoring the Church, the steeple was the most important fix.

“Deterioration was an issue for the church. Everything would progressively become worse if it wasn’t taken it down back in 2007,” said Father Roy.

“The challenge was to have funds to reinstall it. We were very dependent on the generous donations given to us, but it was based on time.”

According to Father Roy, the lack of steeple did not cause attendance problems at Ste. Anne’s. Local parishioners continued attending church, despite the steeple being on the ground. Some couples changed venues for their wedding with it down, but it did not stop the community from staying together.

Ste. Anne’s Knight’s of Columbus member, and long time parishioner, Sandra Marentette wished she witnessed the day it was taken down.

“I would’ve liked to have seen it come down. I’m going to make sure I see it when it rises. It’s the focal point of our community,” said Marentette. “Locals believed it was going to stay down for a couple of years, or even decades. But no matter what, it will give dignity back to not only the parish, but also the town of Tecumseh.”

“We’re a community that will always stay together. It’s great to see the result of what a town can achieve.”
