St. Clair Saints

While students were away, the St. Clair Saints men’s baseball team beat out the Fanshawe Falcons winning first place and the team’s second National Championship in the club’s history on Oct. 26. The Saints beat the Falcons 3-2 at Kinsmen Stadium in Oshawa, Ont., avenging their 2-1 loss last season. Taylor Pappin walked away as player of the game for his pitching. Pappin gave up two runs and five hits but countered back with seven strikeouts to help secure the win.

The St.  Clair Saints men’s and women’s cross-country teams travelled up to London, Ont. to compete in the OCAA Provincial Championship on Oct. 28, 2017. In the wet and merciless conditions, the men’s team managed to bring home a silver medal led by Saints’ rookie runner Tyler Jones. At the meet Jones was named men’s Rookie of the Year and was honoured with being the first selection to Team All-Ontario. Four runners from St. Clair were selected for Team All-Ontario for the Nationals hosted in Quebec. Those runners include: Tyler Jones who finished seventh at Nationals, Beth Horrobin, Gavin Wesley and Andre Tomasian. Horrobin and Jones ran for the first team of runners and Wesley and Tomasian ran for the second.

Varsity Recruiter Ken Ambrose died on Nov. 10, Ambrose played many roles and wore many jerseys in his six and a half years at St. Clair. From his starting role as head coach of St. Clair women’s basketball team to his time as scout and recruiter for all St. Clair athletics, Ambrose made an impact on many athletes at the school. He was most likely the first face athletes would see before they attended St. Clair because of his love for travel and his dedication to athletic prospects. Ambrose was a retired teacher after spending 40 years coaching basketball at all levels with ties from Windsor, Leamington and even London. Ken Ambrose will be missed and remembered by many.

St. Clair Saints women’s volleyball team move their record up to 3-1 with a win against the Sheridan Bruins on Nov. 12.
