Holiday dinner warning

Health Canada would like to remind everyone about poultry cooking safety. Poultry that is not cooked properly can lead to food poisoning by salmonella or campylobacter bacteria. Here are some tips outlined on the Health Canada website.

• Buy frozen food at the end of your shopping trip to prevent food from thawing before it is brought home.
• Check the best before date.
• Make sure the packaging is properly sealed.
• Keep your raw poultry cold and make sure your refrigerator is set to 4 C.
• Never rinse your poultry.
• Cook whole birds until the temperature of the thickest part of the breast or thigh is 82 C and pieces of poultry reach 74 C.

 

Cosmetic recall

Gimme Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel by Benefit Cosmetics, sold in places such as Shoppers Drug Mart and Sephora, has been recalled due to a chemical hazard. The eyebrow product comes in three shade and is sold both individually and in a kit. The products that came in the kit are not to be used, but the rest of the products in said kits are safe to use.

The Spire Health Tag is an interesting gadget that you can attach to any piece of athletic wear and monitor your heart rate, breathing patterns, activity and workouts. It is like turning your favourite sports bra into a Fitbit. The small black monitor has an adhesive side that you stick to your clothing. With over a year and a half of battery life, when placed against the skin it can monitor your heart rate. When placed against your torso it can monitor your breathing. Currently it is only compatible with iPhone 6 and newer but Android users should be able to use it in the near future.
