Children’s Aid Society asking for cash

Some Windsor families may not wake up Christmas morning to a tinsel-covered tree and presents, and the Children’s Aid Society wants to avoid that.

The CAS wants no child to be left behind this holiday season. It has asked the community to come together to brighten Christmas morning for local families this year.

According to the 2016 national census, Windsor had the highest rate of children living in low‑income households among large urban centres – at almost 25 per cent.

The CAS asked, and Windsor answered.

Businesses, individuals and organizations have collected donations of clothing, toys and money over the
last few months to donate to the Windsor-Essex CAS. However, the CAS said there is still a need.

“We have just wrapped up a successful holiday program that we have every year where we were able to
sponsor 752 families,” said Mike Clark, manager of public relations and fund development.

He said there are other families who will likely be in crisis over the holidays.

“We predict, based on past years, probably about 50 families who really are experiencing extenuating circumstances or some kind of crisis situation over the holidays will need our help. That’s where, at this point, we really need cash donations.”

The annual program has covered the wish lists submitted back in the fall by the many families served through the CAS.

The cash donations collected now will be used to purchase backpacks, gift cards and clothing for last minute families who will find themselves in need and at the doorstep of CAS over the holidays.
