Police hope ‘Coffee with a cop’ is a success with public

Windsor police crowded a coffee shop on Thursday afternoon, but it had a casual atmosphere. Windsor police and Downtown BIA held Coffee with a Cop, an opportunity for the public to discuss their concern with the police.

Coffee with a cop is an initiative started in United States and Windsor police has been following the trend, since last year.

Meeting the public for coffee brings an opportunity for the police men and general public to connect on a personal level and understand each other better. There was a house full of police men and public having a good time at the Coffee Exchange.

“It’s a cold day making it perfect for coffee, come in and you can talk to our officers, discuss things one on one. Where that officer is not tied up with an active investigation,” said Sergeant Steve Betteridge, Public Information Officer. “They actually have the time to talk to someone.”

Being a police officer comes with many responsibilities. They have to deal with criminals and keep order in the city.

“Each day we get to make a difference in someone’s life and that’s inspiring and motivational. For me or any police officer. We get to make a difference,” said Al Frederick, chief of Windsor police.

Windsor police hopes that initiatives like these can bring a big change to the society.
