Baseball

The Cleveland Indians and the MLB will no longer officially wear or sell any merchandise that contains the image of Chief Wahoo. The logo change has come after debates over the appropriateness of the logo. The change will happen at the beginning of the 2018 and 2019 season. Logo merchandise will no longer be sold from now on.

Hockey

The Windsor Spitfires continue to take a nose dive in the OHL standings after losses last week. The team lost their Jan. 28 game to the Flint Firebirds 4-2 and Feb. 1 game against the Sarnia Sting 5-3. The Spitfires lost all their games on the weekend and have lost eight of their previous 10 games. The Spitfires currently sit second last in the West Division with 50 points.

Basketball

The Windsor Express head into a busy weekend with games Feb. 1 and Feb. 2. The Express are having a difficult season with a current record of 10-11. Things have been better recently with three wins in a row. Up next for the Express is a game against the Niagara River Lions Feb. 2.

Varsity

The Windsor Lancers have three teams who currently hold a winning record, men and women’s basketball as well as men’s volleyball. Both basketball teams swept their games against the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27. The women’s team now hold a record of 20-7 and the men are 13-12. In volleyball the men have had a dominate season so far and won their most recent game against the Nipissing Lakers in three straight sets. They play their next game Feb. 2 against the Trent Excalibur.
