Have you done something kind today?

Random Act of Kindness Day, a celebration of people performing kind services to others, was held Nov. 9 in Windsor and Essex County. Whether it is performing yard work for a neighbor, buying a meal for someone at a fast-food restaurant, or doing some extra chores around the house, the possibilities are endless. Walking into a local Tim Hortons can lead to a random act of kindness.

Christine Garant of Windsor experienced both sides of Random Act of Kindness Day. Garant was waiting in line at Tim Hortons when a man ahead of her purchased a coffee for her.

“I received a large coffee from this person and it was a great start to my day,” says Garant. “The woman behind the counter asked the man ‘are you doing this because of Random Act of Kindness Day?,’ and sure enough that’s what it was about.”

Garant said she feels the need to pay the deed forward.

“I did the same thing, and it’s a little thing. I try to be a considerate person and repay kindness others show me,” says Garant, “I feel a sense of well-being when I perform an act of kindness for someone.”

Melissa Bonnet, 19, of Tecumseh, said she takes Random Act of Kindness Day seriously.

“It’s a chance to do something nice for others and to show your appreciation towards others,” says Bonnet, “It is important that we celebrate people doing random acts of kindness for others because it makes others feel good about themselves, but I don’t think we should just do it on one day. I think we should do it every day.”
