The United Way runs a program called Leadership Windsor Essex, which also involves giving out awards to “40 under 40.”

The March 28 event celebrated 40 individuals under the age of 40 who have shown significant leadership and success in various industries and fields.

Sherrilynn Colley-Vegh, the director of leadership development and training at the United Way, said it’s the first time for the event in Windsor and it was a success.

“The program is based on 40 under 40 leaders across Canada which started in 1995. We did it as a reflection of leadership and community service,” said Colley-Vegh.

She also said these individuals had to have reached excellence in their field, contributed to the community and shown some type of leadership to be a part of the event.

Colley-Vegh said more than 150 people applied to be a part of the event and it was difficult to choose just 40 for the awards.

“We had representations from private, public, and not-for-profits that were on the selection committee and they really focused on what they were doing in Windsor Essex,” said Colley-Vegh.
