“The opioid crisis is a national issue that municipalities are working to address on multiple fronts,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens in a release.  “The installation of sharps disposal bins is a proven harm reduction effort that increases public safety, which is one step in the right direction.”

Several yellow and black bins have already been installed and more will be installed in the Spring. They will be emptied regularly by trained professionals.

Over the past year, organizations including Windsor Police, the Aids Committee and the Community Health Centre have joined together to tackle the city’s growing drug problem.

Information on what to do if you see improperly disposed of needles can be found on the Sharps Disposal Page on the City’s Website or by calling 311.

Bins will be set out at the below locations:

  • Bruce Park
  • Wigle Park
  • Glengarry/Marentette Neighbourhood
  • Senator Croll Park
  • Downtown Transit Terminal
  • Ford City Parkette
  • Dufferin Place behind Fire Headquarters
