City Council to pre-approve capital funding
City Council is being asked tonight to pre-approve a number of Capital Funding requests.
The projects being proposed are valued at roughly 10.5 million dollars.
The city’s funding request includes projects such as corporate vehicle replacements, parks equipment, city wide road rehabilitation, intersection improvements, engineering studies and a new greenhouse complex.
A multi-year Capital Budget will be presented to city council around mid-March 2019, while the city waits for the province to provide details of a funding decision that may have an impact on their budgeting process.
According to a report to council, early approval of capital projects will allow administration to maximize the number of competitive bids, thus reducing the cost to the City and complete construction during the best weather, which will reduce construction time costs.
The City will also reduce exposure to claims and ensure completion of projects during the construction season. This also allows for the securing of engineering and Ministry of Environment approvals in an earlier time frame. Lastly, it allows the city to get current model year build dates from dealers in order to submit their bids.
