More than 750 St. Clair College students were awarded over $540,000 in scholarships at an awards ceremony held Wednesday, March 6 and Thursday March 7 at the Chrysler Theatre..

“Thanks to the College who provided many study resources and helped with my successes,” said Maegan Betts, a medical laboratory science student who was excited to see her hard work rewarded.

The College seeks and obtains support from companies, organizations and individuals who provide scholarships to help full-time St. Clair College students.

“Scholarships take the burden off of a finances of education,” said Donor Relations Officer Justin Fox, who graduated from St. Clair College in 2017 and received a scholarship himself.

“Potentially, students don’t have to work a part-time jobs and be able to focus on the studies.”

According to St. Clair College executive director John Fairley, the event is a great opportunity for the students to meet with their local financial donors and have photos taken together. Fairley think the event is like Christmas for the students.

“It’s a great system we have; they get their name announced, they go upon the stage to meet with their donor and get picture with donors,” said Fairley, who equated the event to “Christmas for students.

“It helps the students to pay their bills and help them to do better in the school,” he said.

St. Clair College scholarships are awarded every year. Full-time students with a Grade Point Average over 2.0 can apply through the college website.
