Celebrating International Women’s Day

Women from across Windsor celebrated International Women’s Day at the Water’s Edge Theatre last week where the University of Windsor hosted their second annual “Women in Windsor: Inside the Minds of Female Leaders” event.

The night saw more than 100 locals with the panel of women discussing their own accomplishments in the business field and how they maintain their time.

The gala attracted over 100 attendees and featured female leaders in the community like AM800 News anchor Patty Handysides, and this year’s Athena Award winner, Sherrilynn Colley-Vegh.

“It’s an honour to be supporting women and to see the support that we have in this community,” said Colley-Vegh, Windsor-Essex’s Director of Leadership. “I think the most important thing we can do in our lives is raise someone or raise someone up and that’s what this event is doing.”

WETech Alliance CEO and President Yvonne Pilon agreed.

“International Women’s day is a great day to have a conversation on how to empower women,” Pilon said. I heard this one quote and it always stuck with me: `empowered women empower women,’ and that’s the whole point of today.”
