Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) has organized a cancer wellness program for people recovering from and surviving cancer.

WRH offered their first of four sessions Thursday for the ‘Renew Cancer Wellness Program,’ which is a chance for patients, caregivers and survivors to meet and share their stories. The sessions deal with the aftermath of cancer treatments.

Kit McCann, nurse practitioner at WRH, said they talk about things not discussed during treatment.

“We talk a lot about depression, anxiety, sexuality, body image,” said McCann.

The Renew program is free and participants work with specially trained fitness instructors to help them.

John Paul, a cancer survivor, said getting screened for cancer early is important.

“Get checked early,” said Paul. ” I try to stay healthy. You have to eat right, drink a lot of water, that’s very important.”
