Police warn of bitcoin scam
People in Windsor are being targeted for an untraceable bitcoin fraud, say Windsor police.
According to the Windsor Police Service Financial Crimes Unit, there has been an increase in cases where people are victims of financial crimes in which they are contacted by a person claiming to be a government official and asking for money.
“These fraudsters are very clever, and it can happen to anyone that’s why everyone needs to be diligent with information they are giving,” said Const. Talya Natyshak, asking the people of Windsor to be alert.
The newest addition to the list of scams is of a bitcoin scam. People are asked to send or deposit money through bitcoin machines and once done the transaction is untraceable. There have been multiple reports to the police on such frauds.
“It’s always best to report suspicious activity. Usually we say if it’s too good to be true, it usually is,” said Natyshak. “We are always there to help if people think something is off.”
