For months, media events, red carpets and rehearsals have been carefully planned for the sequel to the biggest animated film of all time.

Frozen, released in 2013, became a blockbuster that earned nearly $1.6 billion at the box office. For a generation, the song has been the backdrop to childhood, an ode to female empowerment and sisterhood wrapped in a winter fairy tale.

Set three years after the release of the first film, Frozen II pushes the boundaries of personal relationships while also looking back at past stories. This includes digging into the family histories of the main character Elsa and the source of her magical powers.

Frozen II is playing in movie theatres across Canada as of Friday, Nov. 22.
