‘Sounds of the Season’ collects donations for area food banks
CBC Windsor radio broadcast live for their Sounds of the Season event from St. Clair College today in support of the Windsor-Essex Food Banks Association. The group supports 15 food banks throughout Windsor and Essex County. All food and funds raised supports the food banks, throughout the year, not just during the holidays.
Friday’s broadcast featured musical guests and interviews.
The host of Windsor Morning on CBC Radio, Tony Doucette, said it’s a worthy cause.
“We are part of this community. We’re really sensitive to the difficulty,” said Doucette. “A lot of people in this community have people who can’t do something so basic, put together a meal for them or their families. This is the time of year when I think it’s probably more important to any of us. It’s more sensitive because it’s the holiday season. It should be a happy time for everybody … and for many in the community, it is not.”
Last year CBC Windsor collected 25,000 kilograms of food and about $30,000 in cash — and they’re determined to do better than that this year.
“It’s a really giving community. We put out the call to a lot of people we talk to throughout the year and ask if they’d like to be a part of this. And inevitably they say yes,” said Doucette. “It’s the spirit of the community that everybody wants to pitch in and help out because it’s such a worthy cause.”
Aurora McClennan is a third year music theatre student at St. Clair College who sang several songs during the broadcast.
“We are advertising for our Christmas show. We run two weekends in December every single year … It’s a winter tradition,” said McClennan.
The Sounds of the Season campaign continues throughout December.
