An electrical failure is to blame in a fire at a downtown high-rise at the corner of Pelissier Street and Park Street West that occurred Wednesday.

All residents of Royal Windsor Terrace were able to return to their suites after Windsor Fire extinguished the blaze and removed smoke from the building, but power to the units has still not been restored.

According to fire officials, heat in the common areas is still functioning, as well as hot water throughout the building.

Fire crews arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m. to extinguish the fire which began on the fifth floor. The crews worked to remove smoke that filled the fifth and sixth floors.

A damage estimate is not yet available.

Windsor fire has turned all responsibilities concerning remediation of the building back over to the owners.
