Last weekend, the Windsor Residence for Young Men (WRYM) bundled up against the freezing temperatures at an industrial parking lot on St. Luke Road,

This effort was to raise support for young men who are sometimes forced to spend the night outside.

“Homelessness doesn’t mean inadequate housing … homelessness means we’re in an industrial parking lot and we’ve got to make it through to the dawn,” said Greg Goulin, volunteer executive director of WRYM.

“It’s dark. It’s cold. We have many friends – but sometimes you’re homeless because you don’t have that many friends who want to take you in. Then, it’s loneliness on top of it. The mental component, the anguish, is equally as devastating as the physical destruction and this is what we are trying to prevent for our youth.”

WRYM provides young men a supportive home, basic skills, and individual counselling. Since 2012, WRYM has helped more than 330 youths in building new lives. In 2019, the fundraiser took in $5,000.
