Jackson Park – Paying Homage To Our Fallen Heroes
In Windsor, Ontario, the city and its people have made it a priority to pay homage to the brave men & women who have served in our Canadian Armed Forces. From Dieppe Gardens at the riverfront to the cenotaph at City Hall and all the way to Jackson Park, you can find floral gardens and memorials that immortalize our fallen heroes.
It’s been over 100 years since the First World War was fought overseas in Europe. Over the course of 4 years, many Canadians gave their lives to ensure that our rights and freedoms would not be lost in the generations to come. This was a hard-fought battle that saw a lot of our soldiers on the frontlines in one of the bloodiest conflicts in history.
Those who paid the ultimate sacrifice are the inspiration behind the design of some of the city’s highest-traffic areas, with one of the biggest and most iconic of these places being Jackson Park. Vibrant plants in the summertime and Mother Nature’s colourful display through the fall and winter keep this place a breathtaking sight year-round.
The monuments that sit within the park boundaries tell you an amazing story of conflict, courage and overcoming adversity at all costs. When walking through, you get a strong sense of the pride shared by those who fought to protect our country and way of life. It also offers many amenities to make an entire day out of the experience and take it all in.
If you haven’t already, I recommend visiting Jackson Park with your family while remembering our veterans this November. We keep their memories alive when we pay tribute and honour them and this place provides a great way to pass these traditions on to the coming generation.
