With Heritage Week now over, Windsor-Essex residents in the are taking the opportunity to look back and discover the past.

Spencer Montcalm, an art conservator with the Art Gallery of Windsor, said restoring pieces of art is very easy to do.

“Conservation is very accessible… if you don’t know anything about conservation you can literally dive in and learn something,” said Montcalm.

Montcalm has also said although it is easy, there are long training practices that a professional art conservator must go through.

Sophia Hinch, the Education & Public Programs Coordinator with the Art Gallery of Windsor, said this particular event can get people talking.

“We’re here to spark community conversations around ideas and the issues such as history, culture and society and we’re using our collections, exhibitions, and programs and were here to spark conversations through those programs,” said Hinch.

Montcalm has said that he is currently working on restoring several pieces of art in the Art Gallery of Windsor and will continue to the end of April.

Those who would like to see the restoration of several artworks can visit the Art Gallery of Windsor every Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.

During the month of April, Montcalm will be reviewing and treating several artworks from Isabel McLaughlin’s Nipissing Mine, Susan Gold’s The Space time and more artworks.

More information can be found on the Art Gallery of Windsor’s website at https://www.agw.ca/events.
