Dilkens “very optimistic” about Windsor’s future

Mayor Drew Dilkens and ward members were officially sworn in at the 2022 Inauguration on Tuesday.  

The evening opened with music from the Windsor Youth Orchestra, poetry readings from poetry laureate Marty Gervais, and a message from Indigenous storyteller, Theresea Sims.  

Delivering his third inaugural speech, Dilkens thanked family, friends, and the community for their continuous support. 

“The hospital, the Gordie Howe bridge, the battery factory, they are a magnificent trifecta for Windsor, at least $15 billion worth of investment,” Dilkens said. “But they only tell part of the story. We have population growth, building growth, and people now viewing our region as a hub for economic and cultural growth.” 

He announced the new acute care hospital is on track to open before the previously announced 2031 completion date and said the electric battery plant will generate 3000 jobs for Windsor.

Dilkens said he’s feeling very optimistic about the future of Windsor with all of the new infrastructure under construction and described the cities plan as a “generational investment.”
