Total Eclipse of a lifetime

Windsor and Essex County residents were treated to a rare phenomenon as day turned to night.  

A total solar eclipse occurred Monday and caused excitement across the region as portions of Essex County were in the path of totality (a slim area where the moon fully blocks the sun.)  

According to Time and Date.ca, a total solar eclipse happens when the moon completely covers the face of the sun. To see it, you must be somewhere within a narrow path of totality. 

Some locations such as Leamington saw a number of residents come out for the show, and this resulted in Point Pelee being at capacity. The next total solar eclipse won’t be until 2044 and 2045 in Western Canada.  

In 2144 and eclipse will occur in Southern Ontario, with the path of totality running through the GTA and London, Ontario.
