Guide to Thrift stores Windsor Ontario
When I was moving to Windsor, one of the first things I was researching were thrift stores. I was moving from New York city, where there are bunch of different ones, so I was looking for something that I can equally enjoy. I am a thrifter with many years of international experience, unfortunately this skill doesn’t hold much value on a resume – but I just love shopping and fashion. I will buy everything if the price is right and looks sassy.
When I enter the store, I already know what I will find. I see the clothes from afar and can recognize the material and brand. But I am hunting for good things like silk. cashmere, or vintage tweedy clothes. I found out that, Canada like every other country has their own great brands and with great quality clothes too. After living here in Windsor for almost two years I have my favorite stores, where of course I bought unique things.
May Court Club Shoppe
This store is located at1122 Wyandotte St and to get there can use bus route 2.
I like this store because they are working for a community cause. The people who work there are volunteers and this is why the store is open just a few hours a day.
This store has a variety of clothes, it is mostly for women who like to dress up preppy or tweedy. I am a St Clair student in the Journalism program and can tell that this store is a great catch for our students because it has many clothes that are “camera ready” or business style. There, you can also find many things for the household. Many charming things are sold to adorn your home and fill it with a story. The prices are very sweet too. They have a colorful tag policy. Every week they give discounts on colorful tags. For example, everything what has a yellow tag, can take three items for $5. You are always welcome to call there and ask about their promotions. In this store, I found a vintage Gucci bag for $2.
Society of St Vincent de Paul
This store has two locations in Windsor.
3718 King St, Windsor in the West end of the city, after Sandwich can get there using the buses 1c or 2. Another one from the opposite side of the Tecumseh Mall 1245 Lauzon Rd, can also take bus 1c or 8.
This store is one of the oldest with a charity history back to 19th century and roots from France.
Why do I like this store? For reasonable prices, sometimes they sell many nice things from Ralph Lauren with tags and give amazing discounts. Usually around August – September they make clothes racks with summer items for $1, many of the things are new or in very good condition. I bought a dress that originally cost $250 for $1. Also, I found a platen silver vintage salad server made in Italy just for 0.50 cents.
This store also has many nice shoes and clothes for kids and some furniture.
Cosebelle
Located at 380 Ouellette Ave, you can get there by 1c bus.
This store is owned by a pleasant Italian man. His store is a little gem in the middle of downtown Windsor. This store is a great find for those who are looking for good quality clothes for less money. Clothes are preowned but in a very good condition. Mostly its women clothes. It has shoes, bags and a few household items. This store is great for discounts. The owner makes discounts on his own decision for each item, but no matter the price, it is always enjoyable. Many times, I’ve found great blouses and shoes. One of the best things I purchased there was my woolen purple goose foot pattern coat from one Spanish brand just for $5.
For now, these three stores are wonderful hidden gems in Windsor, with many more authentic thrift places that will make you spend your hours browsing. I think the coolest thing is that all of them are easy to commute to.
