On Sept. 11, LaSalle police posted on their social media pages, as well as their website, that they are requesting any residents and local businesses with security cameras to register with CAMSafe.

According to LaSalle police, CAMSafe is an online platform that allows citizens to voluntarily register any security camera they have, completely free of charge. This allows the program to create a collective network of camera locations throughout the community, enabling the LaSalle police to have a database with security camera locations.

This means that if a crime was ever to be committed, or a person in the area went missing, the LaSalle police may contact those who are registered and request their camera footage. The camera footage could then be provided on a voluntary basis.

This also means that the police won’t have access to the live footage unless it is given to them by the resident with the camera. Everything is completely voluntary and the resident can withdraw from the program at any time.

The LaSalle Police Service’s website says “By Registering your security cameras, you can contribute to a safer community while helping law enforcement agencies quickly and efficiently gather evidence.”

If you are a LaSalle resident who would like to register your camera, or you would like more information on CAMSafe, you can go to (https://camsafe.ca/) camsafe.ca and either click the “Register Now” button, or scroll down to the bottom to their FAQ. You can also contact LaSalle Police Service at 519-969-5210 ext 2031 or email: [email protected]
