Leamington Flyers off to a hot start in sophomore year in the OJHL

The former Junior B team that won the Sutherland Cup in 2023, moved up a tier last season to Junior A. The Leamington Flyers had a great inaugural season, they finished 4th place in the playoffs losing to the Collingwood Blues in the semi-finals. The Blues would eventually win the OJHL Cup and then the Centennial Cup becoming national champions.

After falling short last season, the Leamington Flyers general manager Justin Solcz acquired some great talent over the off-season. Acquiring Colton Smith from the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario hockey league. Owen Macdonald from Sarnia Sting, Marcus Vandenburg from the Sudbury Wolves, Gavin Grundner from the Guelph Storm, and even the likes of Carter Gillen who played in the NAHL with the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Before the start of the regular season, The Leamington Flyers would name Adrian Bosev as their newest captain. Bosev, a player with the Flyers for 3 seasons, now takes on a bigger role for the team. “It’s an honour to be the captain of the Flyers. The fans, the organization, and the team are all amazing and I’m glad I can help represent the Flyers community.

Now five games into the season, the Flyers have won five straight. Colton Smith with ten points, Adrian Bosev, the captain, with eight points. The goaltenders of the Flyers have looked great so far, Vandenburg and Tre Altiman, the former LaSalle Viper putting up wins each time they are in the net.

The Flyers have lots more to do and plenty more games to play. This great start to the season is a great response to last season. Lots more to come.
