Vehicular accidents increasing in Windsor

Frustration on the roads is rising among Windsor drivers as collision rates increase in the city.  

According to statistics from Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) 44 per cent of all emergency department visits are caused by motor vehicle collisions.

A Crosstown 2 bus driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she does not believe locals were taught to drive. 

“It’s crazy. People don’t know how to drive,” she said. “I don’t think they’re taught properly. People turn in front of us from the left lane all the time, and we can’t stop on a dime. And we have a lot of people’s lives in our hands” 

OntarioRoadTest.ca states on their website that 41 per cent of Windsorites fail to obtain their G2 license, and 31 per cent fail their Class G Road test. 

“It’s defensive driving. If bus drivers weren’t aware of their surroundings either, there would be a lot more accidents with city buses,” she said.
