After fans were treated to a hard season in 2023-2024, the Windsor Spitfires looked as though they would need quite a bit of time to rebuild. As it would seem from their first couple home games, they may not need long to contend again.

The Spitfires started their two-game home stint with a tremendous 12-2 win against the Kitchener Rangers. In that game we saw rookies Ethan Belchetz, Ethan Garden, and JC Lemieux all score their first Ontario Hockey League goals in dominating fashion. Belchetz exploded for four goals and two assists for six points in this game, earning the honour of being the first star of the game. It was an action-packed game as there were not only goals, but there were also six fights and 90 penalty minutes handed out among both teams. The crowd of over 5,500 people were roaring out loud every minute of action.

The Spitfires’ second home game saw them facing the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. This game saw the return of Ilya Protas and AJ Spellacy for the Spitfires. Their return was a lot to be excited about as AJ Spellacy opened scoring, while Protas got Windsor’s third goal in just 10 minutes through the first period. This ultimately ended the night of the Greyhounds’ starting goaltender, Landon Miller, who had only four saves on seven shots against and replaced him with overage goaltender, Charlie Schenkel. The Spitfires would continue to play perfect, scoring two more goals and ending the game with a 5-0 victory. This led Joey Costanzo to his second career OHL shutout.

Fans have a lot to look forward to as the season continues. The Spitfires have a lot to prove this season and so far, they have already exceeded expectations. The Spitfires are currently first place in the Western Conference with seven points on the season and a goal differential of +15. Spitfires fans are excited to see what comes next as the season continues to roll along.
