WIFF returns for the twentieth year

The Windsor International Film Festival is back this year, celebrating their 20-year anniversary.  

Running from Oct. 24 to Nov. 3, there are more than 200 films being shown at WIFF this year, with more than 320 screenings throughout the 11-day runtime. 

Ten-year WIFF volunteer Andrew Kidd, who works at the information desk, directs people to films according to their preferences. 

“I help make movie recommendations for our patrons based on what they’ve seen before and enjoyed, what they haven’t liked,” said Kidd.  

Kidd said he really enjoys his volunteer placement. 

“It’s the most satisfying job I’ve ever had in my life,” said Kidd. “It’s finally a chance for my own hobbies, personal obsessions and interests to finally have a useful conduit.” 

In addition to its wide variety of genres, there’s also a variety of cultures focused on in many of the films, as well as screenings in different languages such as French, Arabic and Japanese. 

“We try to have something for everyone,” said Kidd. “Our films reflect the great diversity of cultures and languages that live here in Windsor.” 

With films ranging from new comedies such as It’s Raining Men, to classic horrors like Nightmare on Elm Street, Kidd said there is bound to be something for everybody. 

“There’s great satisfaction in making sure they have the most enjoyable experience possible at WIFF.”
