Canadian Open returns to Windsor

The Canadian Open will be in the Windsor area for the third year in a row.
The event will take place at L’Essor High School.
It will offer a seminar June 29 followed by the tournament the next day. It will have children and adults competing in a style of mixed martial arts known as Jiu-Jitsu. It will offer two forms of Jiu-Jitsu, No Gi and Gi.
The two are similar branches of the same sport. Gi is more formal, where athletes must compete in traditional Karate attire, whereas in No Gi shorts and a T-shirt can be worn.
Windsor Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Jean Jacques Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy will be sponsoring the event.
This will mark the third year the event has been held. Jean Jacque Machado will be in attendance at the seminar to show his skills and guidance for the public. He is one of the most respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world today.
Ron Dupuis, 56, an instructor at Windsor BJJ, said people from all over Ontario, Ohio, Michigan, Seattle and California will be in attendance.
“It is a great opportunity for local schools to learn from one the most sought after BJJ instructors in the world today,” said Dupuis.
T.J. Laramie is a local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor and placed first at last year’s event which was held at the WFCU centre. Laramie mentioned how Machado taught Eddie Bravo, who is a very know BJJ practitioner
“Jean Jacques is a great Jiu-Jitsu icon and has taught many world champions,” said Laramie.
According to the Machado’s Facebook page the first 50 people to register receive a free T- shirt. To register or any questions about the event go to ufbjj.org
