Spits fall to Sting

Despite outshooting the Sarnia Sting 49-20, the Windsor Spitfires were unable to come back from a three-goal deficit losing 3-1 at home Sept. 26.

The Spitfires have now lost their first two games of the Ontario Hockey League season.

Bryan Moore got Sarnia on the board mid-way through the first period, beating Spits goalie Jordan DeKortwith a low wrist shot.
Jordan Addesi scored Sarnia’s second goal from a sharp angle that squeaked through DeKort at 3:11 of the middle frame.
“Your goalie has got to be one of your best players every night and ours wasn’t necessarily our best,” said Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner.
Sarnia’s goalie Taylor Dupuis played a large role in the game as he made 48 saves. This was Dupuis’ first game with the Sting since traded from Sudbury Wolves.
Sarnia’s final goal was scored by Nickolas Latta just more than three minutes after Addesi’s.

Slater Koekkoek cut Sarnia’s lead to 3-1 with a slap shot late in the third period.

“We’re not happy with it, but I think it’s a good start minus not getting the two points,” said Koekkoek.

DeKort was pulled after allowing three goals on six shots.

“We’re not going to be hard on our goalies after two games, we believe in them and hopefully they can turn it around come Saturday,” said Koekkoek. “We’re not hitting the panic button by any means.”

Windsor will be back in action Saturday Sept. 28 night against the Erie Otters at the WFCU Centre.
