Maria’s restaurant in Amherstburg has been voted the number one best breakfast special in Windsor-Essex.

An online poll was held in February 2018 for residents of Windsor and Essex County to vote on which local restaurant has the best breakfast special. Between Paul’s Kitchen, Cora’s, Maria’s and Stacks, people voted Maria’s as first place for the breakfast category.

Maria’s is a breakfast and lunch diner located at 131 Sandwich St. in downtown Amherstburg across from General Amherst High School.

Daily customers of the diner gush over the friendly staff and homey atmosphere.

According to staff, Amherstburg locals know the diner for its infamous pie. Raffles take place at the diner to win free pies.

“We have been working towards this all year, it’s amazing to even be nominated but winning was the icing on the cake,” said Kirk Churchill, co-owner and server at Maria’s.

“We’re honoured to be recognized for all the hard work the staff has been putting in every single day to make this breakfast memorable.”

Daily customers Jim and Mitch Wiggle are big fans of Maria’s breakfast special. Both Jim and Mitch said they never miss a day.

“Jim and I come here every morning to eat, do a crossword and head home,” said Mitch. “It’s such a routine at this point, it feels like home.”

Maria’s has been serving their signature breakfast special for seven years and the owners plan to continue for many years to come.
