St. Clair College’s Student Representative Council held a night with Arlene Dickinson March 10 at the Chrysler Theatre.

Dickinson is the General Partner of District Ventures Capital, which is a venture capital fund focused on helping the market, fund as well as grow entrepreneurs and their companies. Her leadership and help in communities have earned her awards and recognitions such as Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 Hall of Fame and the Pinnacle Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

Angie Lopez, vice president of student affairs for SRC, said the council is happy that this event gave students more information about their futures.

“We want the students to get more information about the workplace and or workforce they are going into,” Lopez said. “This event will be information from a businessperson teaching them how to reach that goal or part of their life that they want to achieve.”

Although this event just happened, the SRC bringing in someone as big and well-known as Dickinson has been a long time coming.

Devin Hurst, manager of student experience for SRC, said they are proud that this event was finally able to happen in-person.

“We originally booked Arlene in spring 2020, when the SRC first expanded our services portfolio to include career service workshops, speakers and opportunities,” said Hurst. “Windsor is an entrepreneurial city and we thought having a speaker from Dragons’ Den was a great fit for our community and our students.”
