With a background in accounting and a stable job, Kareem Virgo found himself in a position in life like many often do – comfortable, but not very fulfilled.

He was content with the path he had chosen, but everything changed when a friend asked him to take pictures at an event in 2014. What started as a favour turned into a passion, and Kareem’s life hasn’t been the same since. Along with his wife, Sandy, he built a successful photography business known for its unique and timeless touch.

“Photography entered my life by chance,” said Virgo. “A friend of mine asked me to help him capture an event back in 2014, and I fell in love with capturing those moments. I have been hooked ever since.”

The couple’s cinematic style of photography sets them apart from others in the industry. They have a gift for capturing intimate moments that feel romantic and nostalgic. Kareem’s eye for detail and Sandy’s feminine touch have helped them create a niche in the wedding photography market. Their loyal customers love their approach to capturing the beauty of love.

Despite possessing a wide range of photography skills, the Reem Photography team gradually found their specialization in wedding photography because they were drawn to the themes of partnership and companionship. The Reem team’s clients have conveyed their satisfaction with their approach to capturing wedding photographs.

“A great wedding photographer is someone who has an eye for detail and is intentional with trying to tell a story through their images,” Virgo said. “There is especially great importance in capitalizing and perfecting that detail, as you do not want to ruin somebody’s wedding day with bad pictures.”

Although a skilled entrepreneur, he acknowledges his wife and life partner, Sandy, is an essential part of the business. Sandy contributes significantly to the creative process by providing input on styling and directing the shoots. Her expertise in human resources and modelling brings a feminine perspective and meticulous attention to detail that enhances the quality of their work.

Sandy said the beginnings of REEM photography, when she was still working full-time, was a challenge.

“When Kareem started to pursue photography more frequently, we realized that it could be his full-time career,” Sandy said. “Even though I was employed in a full-time job in human resources at the time, I supported him during the initial stages of the business.”

She said she brought her feminine touch and added style to the business, which allowed her to connect with and support brides on the most significant day of their lives.

“As a bride myself, I was able to provide a unique perspective that resonated with the couples, which is why they loved working with me,” said Sandy. “Brides even went out of their way to ensure that I was available when they booked Kareem, as they valued the feminine touch and style that I brought to their special day.”

Fortune Business Insights, a market research company that does data analysis on growing industries and provides recommendations for corporations, did a study on the field.

The wedding industry is an escalating market, according to the research company. The study showed people are increasingly giving high priority to capturing the photos of their wedding day. The number of people employed as a photographer has grown 4.49 per cent from its prior year according to the data issued by Data USA.

Over the years, the Virgos have built a thriving photography business, leveraging their vast experience in capturing intimate moments. The pair has even been featured in many notable publications and television shows such as People Magazine, Vogue and Good Morning America.

Among all the moments that Kareem has captured, he has identified one that stands out as the most unforgettable.

“My favourite piece of work to date would be capturing my wife and son,” Kareem said. “It’s my favourite because there’s no pressure from dealing with client expectations, so it’s not like a documented task. There’s no formality, just enjoying the moment, and because of that, it’s seamless.”

As a team, they both agree they work excellently together, comprehending and encouraging each other’s aspirations, with a mission to make a difference in the world – one pixel at a time. They look forward to spreading the knowledge they have built over the last few years through their social media, YouTube channel, photography workshops, digital presets and much more to come.

“I do think I can change the world with photography,” Kareem said. “As wedding photographers, our work spreads to hundreds of people daily. We aspire that whoever sees our images can be inspired to love, and that they see the depth of the love in the people we capture.”
