There is a drug that has been approved called Mounjaro for weight loss.

Megan Kantarjian, Pharmacist Manager at DMC Pharmacy. She said the drug has a lot of side effects.

“Taking this drug can cause nausea, vomiting, and an upset stomach. It is an injection, so people can get reactions to the injection. There is a warning regarding any history of thyroid cancer that is not recommended. Mounjaro is a medication to treat blood sugar, stomach problems, and all bladder problems, but the most common is nausea, vomiting, and an upset stomach. These are the common symptoms of this drug,” Kantarjian said.

The drug has to be prescribed by a doctor and approved for 18 or older and can’t be purchased by the pharmacy. The drug costs $400 every four weeks.

In the United States, the drug Zepbound has been approved for chronic obesity and weight loss, and in Canada, Mounjaro has been approved for type two diabetes.

Reem Jarjees, a stay-at-home mom, takes the Mounjaro drug.

For her, it causes constipation, makes her feel like throwing up, and causes depression. She takes it once a week. She started the drug four months ago.

“I’m very comfortable and happy now because I lost weight; my weight is now 214 before, it was 252 pounds. I’m now healthier, and I have more energy than before,” said Jarjees.

She took this needle because she felt her whole body hurt to the point that she couldn’t do anything at home.

“This needle is not enough to lose weight. I have to watch food, exercise continuously, and drink water a lot,” said Jarjees.

She went to the doctor after she made the decision she needed to make a change.

“I previously worked on a lot of diets, but my body will never lose weight. But when the doctor advised me to take this needle, I felt the change from the first week,” said Jarjees.

This needle can’t be taken by anyone from the pharmacy except by consulting the doctor. Its price varies for example, here in Canada, the price starts from $250, and according to the patient’s condition, its price may rise more. In the United States, the price is more expensive.

According to madeincanada.ca, a quarter of Canada are obese. The average rate is over 31 per cent.
