A night of hip-hop at Vanity Night Club

It was a night of beats, rhymes and life for Vanity Night Club.

Hosted by Jahmann Massey, a local hip-hop artist, Vanity Night Club had its first live performance Nov. 14. The show was held to showcase the up-and-coming talent in Windsor’s hip-hop music scene. The event included music from local disc jockey DJ 2AT.

Around 200 people attended the show, which included local rap and hip-hop artists Massey, Mr. 519, Chris Chase, and Joel Yorke. Friends and fans of the artists showed up to support local music and their friends’ performances.

Yorke, 31, has been rapping for roughly 15 years and has performed at various venues in the Windsor and Detroit area. Yorke takes his time to feel out the crowd at normal events, and said there’s nothing better than playing to a local crowd of his friends and newcomers.

“The energy was really high,” said Yorke. “Great people and great crowd, I love performing in front of my people in Windsor.”

Owner of Vanity Night Club Jamie Stewart, 29, said he thinks the performance will help out the club and Windsor’s music scene immensely.

“The talent and promise will be apparent and witnessed by all guests,” said Stewart. “Windsor’s music scene is loaded with experienced performers.”

Stewart said he looks forward to seeing Vanity becoming a hub for experienced and up-and-coming talent of Windsor’s music scene for years to come.
