A sense of relief for international students

At a recent meeting between St. Clair College and the Minister of Refugees, Immigration and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen addressed concerns for international students.

Dozens of international business students at St. Clair College were caught in turmoil with Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada as deadlines passed to apply for post-graduate work permits, and applicants experienced delays.

During his speech, Hussen said international students contribute a lot to the economy of Canada. According to Hussen, international students have payed $15 billion collectively.  He also said they enrich the classrooms with different ideas when they come to Canada.

Zain Bin Majid was present as Hussen spoke, he no longer has to wait to receive his work permit from the government as the issue had been resolved earlier.

“I completely agree with the minister,” said Majid,referring to students enrich the classrooms.

Hussen was traveling across the province to address concerns from immigrants and refugees.

As a part of his tour, Hussen visited the Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce.

He told the audience Canada has a labor shortage and the government is launching new programs targeted at attracting and retaining skilled immigrants.

“The immigration levels will be increased, especially in the economic category to meet the needs of business that are growing who need worker for unfulfilled jobs ,” said Hussen.

The Minister said he believes Canada is strong because of its diversity not in spite of it.
