Trevor Stumpo is a public relations student at St. Clair College who has been living at the Ouellette Tower since September 2020. Stumpo tells what kind of safety protocols have been implemented by the Skyline.
“This is a communal building. They have made it mandatory that we wear masks anytime outside of our apartments since COVID started,” said Stumpo.
“We are not allowed to have more than three people in the elevators at a time because it is hard to social distance. They have ramped up cleaning and everything like that keep people safe.”
Stumpo believes that everyone is following the safety protocols. He said the resident manager sends out the regular reminders on updated protocols.
Philip Klimski, works in communications in Fund Development and Mental Health Promotion at the Windsor-Essex County branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) since June 2020.
“The COVID-19 Pandemic has taken a toll on mental health and it is important that people are still getting the help they need,” said Klimski.
“Unfortunately, rates of depression, anxiety and substance abuse has gone up regarding the pandemic. However, we have increased the number of services and social workers to help clients in need.”
According to Canadian Mental Health Association, housing makes a big impact on mental health. Individuals who cannot afford good housing tend to be violent, and enhance both communicable and chronic diseases.
On the other hand, safe and affordable housing are essential in maintaining health.
Skyline Living management sent tenants links for seminars which cover a variety of topics, such as money management during the pandemic. They also organized some ways to deal with stress.
Their diligence in following the social distancing protocols and supporting neighbours has been part of the company’s efforts in flattening the curve.
