After 3.5 years, Brexit goes through
After almost half a century, Britain has decided to leave the European Union.
The group of 28 member countries has become 27.
Britons in 2016 voted 52 per cent in favour of leaving in a referendum, that lead to negotiations between the United Kingdom and European Union.
Negotiations of the exit, dubbed as Brexit, started with Prime Minister Theresa May in office and was later taken over by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
What does it mean for Canada ?
Canada’s trade agreement with Europe, which went into effect in 2017, took a decade of negotiations. Now Canada will have to carve out a separate deal for both Europe and Britain.
The United Kingdom is Canada’s third biggest trading partner.
