Windsor construction workers continue to work on the Aquatic Centre located downtown.

The construction, which started March 2012, is projected to be by finished by December 2013. The project is estimated to cost $65 million. The Aquatic Centre will hold the International Children’s Games run by the Fédération Internationale de Natation in August 2013.

“It’ll be a really good training facility for the competitors for the summer games and for future events,” said a local construction worker Alexander Schmoll. The construction workers start at 7 a.m. and are done at about 6 p.m., depending on which contractor is working.

The left side of the building is for the summer games and the capacity for the competitor’s part of the facility is 3,500 people. There will be a natatorium competition pool and a diving pool will have 10 lanes which will be 71.5 metres long. The pool manufactured in Italy and made according to FINA regulations, for future competitions.

The summer games are for children age 12-15 and the recreational part of the facility will include an activity pool, a wave pool, a lazy river, a splash pad, a flow rider and a tot gang slide all of which are indoors.

An attraction not visible is a moveable bulkhead which allows the pool to move in length so there can be two events going on at the same time and the pool water level can be changed.

Another local construction worker, Doug Farmer, said this will help promote tourism and athletics in the city.

“It’ll be great for family’s and everything,” said Alexander Schmoll. “It’ll be like another Canada’s Wonderland.”
