Art Battle Windsor

A dozen people were expected to compete in October for the Art Battle in Windsor.

The Art Battle organized by Art Battle Windsor and PropertyGuys.com took place at the Olde Walkerville Theatre. The theatre was the perfect location with its own unique character and atmosphere that compliments Art Battle Windsor, according to Event Co-Ordinator Gina Rogers.

“An inaugural art event took place in June and received great support and feedback from artists and audience members so they were expecting a great turnout for this event. The battle included live painting by local artists,” said Rogers.

The producer at PropertyGuys said she thinks the event is very good for the community.

“Arts Battle Windsor raises the general public’s awareness about the high caliber talent in our area,” said Glorianna Shearme.

Rogers said she believes the event is beneficial for many reasons.

“It gets people excited about art,” said Rogers. “When the audience sees what the contestants can create in 20 minutes, it helps them appreciate the talent of our local artists. From an artist’s perspective, Art Battle Windsor is beneficial because it puts them in the spotlight, in the local and international art scene, plus it gives them an opportunity to market themselves.”

Artists who wanted to compete simply had to register through their website artbattle.com and then Art Battle Windsor worked with Art Battle Canada to select the featured 12 to showcase their talent. Each artist paints something for the audience to see in 20 minutes. The audience gives their ratings and then the next contestant showcases what they can do.

A portion of the profit was given to the Cardiac Wellness program at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. Rogers said the money raised will go towards a new satellite program in Tecumseh. Rogers said she hopes they can put the show on again next year.
